Three new fire engines have been purchased by Aena to consolidate Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport’s emergency services. Two of the trucks are already in service and a third is due to be incorporated in the next few months.
According to the airport authority, the three fire engines – all Rosenbauer Panther 6×6 models – represent an investment of €1,578,000 and are part of a major national initiative that includes the purchase of a total of 22 fire trucks for various Aena airports around Spain. Alicante-Elche Airport firefighters have received specific training in order to become familiar with and master the new models.
In a press statement, Aena noted, “The Rosenbauer Panthers stand out for their fully-glazed cabin design which provides great visibility and for having a greater range when launching extinguishing agents thanks to their powerful pump. They are also more efficient in terms of emissions and achieve a reduction in fuel consumption by having a single 700 Hp engine to drive both the vehicle and the water pump, whereas the previous models had two engines.”
